Last Things
On April 17, 1847, a rescue party discovered the final surviving member of the Donner Party—Lewis Keseberg—alone in a makeshift cabin by Truckee Lake. They found him wrapped in a blanket, surrounded by human bones and a pot of roasted organs. Four years later, at the height of the California Gold Rush, Keseberg moved to Sacramento and opened the Lady Adams Hotel, where he rented luxurious suites and served delicious meals to starry-eyed argonauts.
The Lady Adams Hotel is an account of one guest's stay in Herr Keseberg's accursed hostelry.
